The band had a wedding reception to do in May, so we all headed down to Myrtle Beach to do the show. Once we setup the stage, Bubba took us to out to Goat Island to feed his goats and for a quick buzz around the area.
If you are ever in the area, be sure to visit Bubba's Love Shack - tell him The Worx Band sent you!
I went back a few months later with my kids and had the special of the night, Stuffed Grouper and, just WOW! So incredible!!

"Piracy was robbery at sea and was considered so serious that the penalty was not only death but also ritualistic execution. A special Admiralty Court tried and executed pirates. After they were hanged on the beach between high and low tide, the bodies were tarred and hung in chains called a "gibbet" at the harbour entrance as a warning to other mariners.
This is a replica of the pirate Edward Jordan executed in Halifax in 1829. He was "gibbeted" at Black Rock in Point Pleasant Park. The same year, the Royal Navy also gibbeted four mutineers on McNabs Island. Any ship entering Halifax Harbour in 1829 was greeted by this gauntlet of rotting corpses swinging in the wind. Jordan's skull was later retrieved and given to the Nova Scotia Museum.

Quality Inn, our hotel in Springdale.
Our room was good and the bus stop to the park is in front of the hotel, very convenient.
The pool, if your interested, is small and nothing special.
If you'd like to stay in the hotel inside Zion Park, that's really cool, remember to book 18 months in advance...

Most of the pics Lionel took in the Idea Factory area came out pretty badly out of focus. But this was an awesome area for parents--an interactive playground designed to occupy/educate/entertain kids under 10 years of age. A special area was included for infants.

My sandwhich from the Railway Deli in Canmore. It was quite good and a good price. The rest of the people I was with got the chef's special. More food, but not in the cute display.
We also got in and had no wait to order, but right behind us was a crowd. The restaurant filled up but the line was always moving.
The deli side quite impressed me as well.

These were not as good as I anticipated. The filling, which contained scallion, ginger and, possibly, a little chili, could have been pork or beef as easily as lamb. The sauce on the side was garlic in a mixture of soy and vinegar. I liked the dumplings well enough but they were really nothing special. Rating: 3 out of 5.

After a crappy year, I took my 28-year-old self, my 29 and 35-year-old best friends, to Disneyland Paris for some much needed fun. My 5th visit, for their 15th Anniversary Halloween party. :-)
This is the Main Street bandstand, taken over for Halloween by the Pumpkin Men! I love seeing how Disneyland transforms for special events...not to mention I'd give my right arm to work on their design team!!

1942 Ford Fire Engine
Early fire protection equipment at Manzanar was limited to garden hoses, water buckets, shovels and eventually hydrants.
On July 11, 1942, the U.S. Forest Service provided this 1942 Ford V-8 pumper with a capacity of 500 gallons per minute. A second Dodge fire truck (pictureed at right) arrived on April 3, 1943, adding an additional 500 gallon capacity.
The fire department was located one block north of here, where you can still see a large cement slab. The fire crew included a fire chief, three Caucasian captains and thirty Japanese American firemen split among three eight hour shifts. The crew doubled with the addition of volunteer firefighters.
Between 1942 and 1945, the fire department responded to nearly 100 fires in mess hals, barracks, and service buildings as well as grass and brush fires. On July 28, 1944, Manzanar's only large fire occured, destroying warehouses 33, 34 and 35. A strong south wind which drove the flames toward Block 4 as internee and camp staff rushed to wet down the roofs of their barracks and other nearby buildings.
After the war, this fire truck was used by the Bishop Fire Department for many years. They expanded the bed and added the ladder in the 1950's. The truck was acquired by the National Park Service in the 1990's and today is used for parades and special events.

Delicate Arch near sunset in Arches National Park, seen through the opening of Frame Arch. We hiked 14+ miles today. The hike to Delicate Arch is nothing special, but the view once you arrive is worth the effort. This is one of those classic shots that you have to get.

At the Din Tai Fung Dumpling House in Arcadia, California.
You go to a dumpling house, it makes sense that you get lots of dumplings.
According to Wendy, the Beijing and Taipei branches of this restaurant have better ambience.
The food was okay. Maybe I'm just not enough of a dumpling connoisseur to realize what made this place special; it was about the same as any dim sum place I've been to in the Bay Area. Plus, they didn't have char siu bao. They should really have a special white guy's menu with that on it.
