It's always a unique challenge trying to shoot he parks, when you visit with non-photography minded people. You don't always get a chance to seek out or setup shots; you mainly try to take pictures when they stop to take pictures; you're not always in the most photogenic of areas; and you're sometimes standing in spots you normally wouldn't 'just stand'. While you're walking around, you have to be totally quick with your shots, or just suffer the heartache of a missed moment. But it's the 'just standing' instances when your shutter finger really starts to twitch. You know you could setup if needed... you see all of the possible great shots around you.... and even when you know the shot may not be of epic proportions, you know that you have to shoot something.
This was one of those standing moments. I didn't necessarily need to setup anything; but I saw the shot I wanted, and was able to take my time in getting it. Although these lights are up all year long, I love the Holiday ambiance they bring to the area; especially when you know that Christmas is fast approaching. And this wouldn't have been at the top of my list of standing areas; but it was the perfect spot to give the feel that the lights are all over this area, as opposed to just looking like they're only over a certain stretch.

About the Cover:
The only known Resort iconography is (what I affectionately call) the” Vacation Kingdom” Logo. This 1971 logo was painstakingly “vectorized” from the original image and then expanded to include the Polynesian, and Grand Floridian Resorts. Designed after the Parks binder, with its bright primary colors, this volume was focused on metallic effects. Additionally, (and because Downtown Disney would be included with this Volume) the birds are a direct copy of those found on the original 1975 logos of Lake Buena Vista and the Disney Village.
About the Project:
The Walt Disney World Menu Books, were created as a tangible reference for the WDW Concierge Cast to both inform and sell dining locations to WDW Guests. The original version of the resource was contained in a single 3” binder containing nearly all of the property’s 75+ table service locations. Decreasing wear-&-tear was the primary goal, and every decision made towards this goal. First, the collection was split into two sturdy 1-inch volumes (Parks and Resorts). Secondly, the coverage was restricted to those resorts in same category. (This project was done for Deluxe Resorts therefore only deluxe locations would be presented.) In all, over 300 pages of material for each set of volumes with six identical sets being produced (1914 printed pages over the length of the project).

This day in Disney history:
(1971) Roy O. Disney, who had carried the burden of his brother's dreams for most of his adult life, and certainly for the five years since Walt's death, formally dedicated Walt Disney World to his brother's memory. Although he continued to give his brother the credit – and insisted that “Walt” be added to the name of the park, which had previously been known simply as Disney World – Roy had worked tirelessly since Walt's death to bring the dream to life raising more than 0 million for the park's construction. Just two months after the dedication, Roy Disney passed away.
Bonus: Roy O. Disney's dedication speech: “Walt Disney World is a tribute to the philosophy and life of Walter Elias Disney... and to the talents, the dedication, and the loyalty of the entire Disney organization that made Walt Disney's dream come true. May Walt Disney World bring Joy and Inspiration and New Knowledge to all who come to this happy place... a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn — together”
It is said that Roy O. Disney, while waiting to dedicate Walt Disney World, felt sad that his brother Walt could not be there to see out his last dream and dedicate Walt Disney World himself. He thought that if Walt himself could not be there then the closest thing to Walt would be Mickey Mouse. After all, it was all started by a mouse. So Roy had his assistants go fetch Mickey Mouse to be brought up on the stage to stand by his side while he dedicated Walt Disney World. After giving his dedication for Walt Disney World, he then asked Lillian Disney (Walt Disney's wife) to join him. As the orchestra played "When You Wish Upon a Star", which is sort of considered the Disney anthem, she stepped up to the podium accompanied by Mickey Mouse. He then said, "Lilly, you knew all of Walt's ideas and hopes as well as anybody; what would Walt think of Walt Disney World?". "I think Walt would have approved," she replied.
Roy died from a cerebral hemorrhage on December 20, 1971, the day he was due to open the Disneyland Christmas parade.
